From time to time I find several news articles containing information relevant to my forum (at least tangentially).

Til now I've just posted a link or C&P the content into a thread.

I'm wondering if there's a way I can 'share' the article into a blog post somehow on SMF.

I do have TinyPortal if that helps?

Here's an example of the sort of thing I'd like to 'share' https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-02-27/combat-drone-secretly-developed-by-raaf-and-boeing-unveiled/10851000
Please do not PM me with questions on astrophysics or theology.  You will get better and faster responses by asking homeless people in the street. Thank you.

Are the articles in TP not what you want. ??

I'm not sure. Maybe they are.

But it's still essentially a c&p operation isn't it, not re-blogging as you might do on wordpress.

Some of the posts I made on Wub had a quote of the article and then some commentary by me with my own thoughts and a link to the article. Some can be cut and paste but not all. Google hates duplicate content from what I hear and it's not a good practice to get into. It's better to read the article and summarize it in your own words if you can. :2cts

Not concerned re google as its just going to be an occasional thing when there's big news like that in the link I gave.

Nicely done. It looks very professional. It'll take time to figure stuff out. Making a test article you can play with would help out a bit I think. :rgton  Nice job though.

If you haven't already done so, you might need to check terms of use before republishing someone else's content on your site, otherwise it could get very expensive. https://about.abc.net.au/terms-of-use/#UseOfContent

LandyVlad

Ah "fair use" that old argument...

A literal reading of this:
QuoteAll intellectual property rights in the content, software and systems owned by or licensed to the ABC on any ABC Online Services, including logos, images, names, designs, trademarks and copyright (ABC Content) are reserved to the ABC and its licensors.

Such content is provided for your personal, non-commercial use only. Unless specifically noted in the House Rules for a particular service, you may not otherwise reproduce, republish, modify, adapt, translate, prepare derivative works from, reverse engineer or disassemble ABC Content, without obtaining the ABC's prior written permission.

It would mean you can read about it but not tell anyone else! Which of course is silly.

it goes on to again state that:
QuoteIf you are interested in using ABC Content other than for personal, non-commercial use, please contact ABC Library Sales for further information.

So the discussion would centre around:

Is it commercial use in this case?  No.

Is it personal use? Well, that would depend what a 'reasonable person' would consider personal use, if it came to court. Such is the law.

Having said that, the ABC is our government-owned broadcaster and I'm not aware of ANY prosecutions for republishing content. It literally happens ALL the time. Just look all over faceache for a start.

I'd be concerned if I ran a news republishing site; but for occasional sharing of such info to a forum I don't think there are any dramas.

Worst case scenario is they'd issue a take-down notice and that's what I would do.

But they won't because they have better things to worry about... like keeping their government funding :D

It was just a word of advice, more of a reminder.

Can get messy, especially where images are involved.  Owner of said image(s) could send you a bill for the usage. ;)

LandyVlad

I reckon Boeing is the owner and it's all promotion for them !  :)
i.e. it would have been provided in a press pack.

Anyway it's always something to keep in mind for sure.

Cheers
